This Privacy Policy explains what information down? (“down?”, “we”, “us”) collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to the down? mobile app and the website at downthe.app. By using down?, you agree to this Policy.
down? uses your mobile phone number to create and sign in to your account. We verify it with a one-time passcode (OTP) sent by SMS. Your phone number is your identity in down?.
The name you enter so friends recognize you, and an avatar color generated by the app. You can edit your name at any time in Settings.
To make inviting friends easy, down? asks permission to access your device contacts. We use this access only to display your contacts so you can pick who to invite. We do not upload, store, or keep your address book. When you select specific friends to invite, we save only those chosen people’s name and phone number — never the contacts you didn’t pick. If you grant limited contacts access, we only ever see the contacts you’ve allowed.
The hangouts you create or are invited to: hangout names, dates and time windows, vibes/preferences, RSVPs (whether someone is “down”), general area, and the final plan. People you invite may submit RSVPs and preferences.
Basic technical information needed to operate the Service, such as device and app version and timestamps of actions (for example, when an invite or RSVP was created). down? does not use third-party advertising or location-tracking SDKs, and does not track you across other apps or websites.
down? sends SMS for account security (one-time verification codes) and, where supported and with your involvement, hangout-related messages. Message and data rates may apply. Message frequency varies. Reply STOP to opt out of non-essential messages where applicable, or HELP for help. We do not sell or share phone numbers with third parties for their own marketing, and SMS consent is not shared with third parties for marketing purposes. When you send an invite, the invite link is sent by you, from your own device and messaging tools.
We store information using Supabase, our cloud database and authentication provider, which processes data on our behalf. We share information only:
We do not sell your personal information.
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. You can delete your account at any time in the app at Settings → Delete account. Deleting your account removes your profile and the hangouts you host, along with their associated data, from our active systems. Some information may persist briefly in backups before being overwritten.
down? is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
We may update this Policy from time to time. We will update the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, provide additional notice where appropriate.
