SMS Messaging & Consent

down? Account Verification · one-time passcodes only

What messages we send

down? sends SMS for one purpose only: account verification. When you sign up or sign in, down? sends a one-time passcode (OTP) to verify your phone number. We send no marketing or promotional messages — verification codes only.

How users opt in (Call-to-Action)

Opt-in happens inside the down? mobile app. On the phone-number screen, the user manually types their own mobile number and taps the “Send code” button to request a one-time verification code. By tapping “Send code,” the user actively requests and consents to receive that code. There is no pre-checked box, and we use no purchased, rented, or third-party phone lists — a user only ever receives a code when they personally enter their number and tap “Send code.”

The exact consent disclosure shown to the user at that moment:

“By tapping Send code, you agree to receive a one-time SMS verification code from down?. Message & data rates may apply. Message frequency varies. Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help.”
